It's That Time of Year Again

Print
Yeppers.....it's that time of year again where I pound myself in the head asking.....why, oh why, don't you get it!!!  This year though, I think I get it!  I don't know about you.....but for me, this time of year gets my blood flowing, what with the flowers budding out, the leaves a brilliant green.....and then there's that patch of dirt, and a few odd empty pots calling to me.....please mum, fill us.  With what you may ask?  Veggies.....veggies.....and more veggies!!!  This year I couldn't say no!  I blame my brother-in-law for this current need to play farmer.  In a frigid corner of Pennsylvania, he decided it was time to pot up some veggies.....so he could have handfuls of cherry tomatoes for his adorable little grandson to munch on this summer (yes, you can say awww now...what a wonderful granddaddy).  When I first caught wind of this endeavor.....I quickly reminded myself that this year I was turning over a new leaf.....no more farming!  Let me cut to the chase here.....I firmly held to that belief up until yesterday (AFTER my feet were firmly planted back on good ol' Texas soil).  Then I skedaddled my fanny over to not one, but two nurseries to stock up on what I hope (still keeping fingers crossed) will give me a successful crop of foodstuff to get the Big Boober's and my bellies delightfully full!  If that wasn't enough.....then I grabbed that bag o' seeds out of the freezer and started pointing and saying I'll do this one, and that one, and oh yea, let's not forget that one!  ¡Ay, caramba!!!  So guess what.....I really DIDN'T get it.....I again decided that farmer schmuck is once again my middle name!  I guess I'll never learn!

Now I'd like to introduce to you 2011's hopeful crop.....

Take note that there's some lavender in there.  What's with the lavender?  While picking out plants, I had visions of lavender fields in some provence in France wistfully floating before my eyes.  It's amazing the mind trips my head goes on at times!

Here are a few unwilling participants from my bag o' seeds that live in my freezer all year long.....

So what do you think.....can I pull this farmer thing off this year???  Let me catch my breath here from laughing so hard.  Yea, right!  Let's talk again in a couple of months when I share photos of the little freaks of nature that will push their deformed heads through Mother Earth.  Alas.....

  2. You are hilarious Anne. I am still waiting before I plant mine in pots. The Pecan trees haven't leafed out yet here in North Florida which means a chance of a cold snap until they wake up from their winter sleep. I'm getting the pots ready for the opportune moment though. Hope you have a very successful pot garden this year.

  3. I'm sending wishes for a great garden this year. It's much too cold here for any planting yet, but in 2 months I will be rolling up my sleeves and getting busy. Last year my 2 tomato plants were busy keeping us eating tomatoes daily. I understand about the lavender plants, I have that dream often . I have 3 lavender bushes now but it too a long time for them to take off. I moved them from the North side of our home to the South side and they are doing much better. Good luck and happy gardening, Anne!

  4. Well first, you have to put positive thoughts about it out in the universe. One of these times, you're bound to have a recognizable harvest!!!
