How To Change The Look Of Your Display Name

Print

I've been asked every now and then how I got my Display Name to show up so doodified.....something that's really quite simple (that's it up above).  Your Display Name will show up whenever someone wants to check out your Profile, or even when you comment on someone's blog.  This is your opportunity to be just a tad bit different than most everyone else in Blogdom.

Here's how your Display Name looks when you or someone else pulls up your profile.....

Here's how it looks when you comment on someone's blog.....

You certainly don't need a degree in Geekeze to pull this simple change off.....the only thing you need is a bit of patience, and when all is said and done.....you've got something that's just you to show off!

If you're ready.....then let's get at it!

First thing you'll need to do is pull up Facebook Symbols in a separate window.....don't worry, these symbols WILL work on your blog or website.

There are 4 tabs at the top of this page.  For our purposes, you're only interested in Cool Characters and All Symbols.

Dive into those tabs and just start looking around for any symbols that you'd like to use in your Display Name.  Make sure you keep this page open.

I was interested in a couple of pointing hands and my name in circled letters.....

Once you've found exactly what you want to make your Display Name unique.....then you need to head over to your blog.....and pull up the Dashboard.  Once you're at your Dashboard, then click on Edit Profile.....or you can also click on Edit Photo (you can make the change in both sections).

On the Edit Profile page, you need to cursor down until you find the header, Identity.....and from there, you'll see Display Name just three lines below that.  This is where your new Display Name will go (you probably already have a name in there, but we're going to change that).  If you have a name in there, then delete it.  Make sure you keep this page open.

Now go back to the Facebook symbols page and locate the first symbol you want for your new Display Name.  Once you've located it, highlight the symbol, and then do a Ctrl C (to copy).

Head back to the Edit Profile page, and place your cursor in the box where your new Display Name will go.  Do a Ctrl V (insert).....and now your first symbol has been entered.

Continue doing this until you have all your symbols entered.  Note:  Some symbols may not show up very well, so you may have to do some experimenting until you find exactly what works for you!

If you're 100% satisfied with your new Display Name, then cursor down to the bottom of the Edit Profile page, and click on Save Profile.

VOILA!!!  You now have a unique Display Name!!!
