Save Your Blog Tutorial

Print
I'm sure each and every one of you has heard a horror story or two of someone trying to pull up their blog.....and either something was terribly wrong with it.....or gawd forbid.....it was gone.  Then you find yourself frantically trying to contact Blogger (yea right).....or jumping into one of the forums hoping that someone will help you (and yes, there are quite a few folks like you and me, that are willing to lend a hand).  There is something that you can do to protect your blog.....something that you should get into the habit of doing EACH and EVERY week.....and that is SAVE IT!!!  This is probably one of the simplest things that you can do.....and if ever something happens to your blog.....you've got a backed up copy!!!  I've gotten into the habit of saving my blog every Sunday.....no excuses!!!  So are you ready for probably the simplest tutorial you'll find on here.....let's get at it.....

First thing you'll need to do is go to your Dashboard.....and click on Settings for the blog you want to save.....

Once you get to the Settings screen you'll find almost at the top of the screen, Export Blog under the Blog Tools section.....click on Export Blog.....

The next box that pops up is where you'll begin the process of downloading your blog.  I prefer to store my blog on my hard drive, but you can also move it to another blogging service, if you so desire).  You need not fear about your blog disappearing.....you are just SAVING it.....it's not going anywhere.  Click on Download Blog.....

Now a File Download box pops up asking you if you want to Open or Save your blog.....you'll want to click on Save.....

I prefer to save my blog in my photo area.....but you can save it anywhere that works for you.  Also, if you have several blogs to save, you will want to rename the file name with something indicating what blog it is for.....for instance, my saved blog is coming up as blog-09-20-2010.xml, but I have several blogs that I save, so to be more specific I'll rename it CA blog-09-20-2010.xml (indicating that this is for my blog, Calamity Anne's Adventures).  Make sure you don't delete the .xml!!!  Now if the file is named as you want it be.....click on Save.....

Here's an example screen of what the file name would look like after renaming it.....

Your download is complete.....so now you can click on Close.....and you're done!!!

Wasn't that about as Simple Simon as you can get!
