Print Friendly Button

Print
How many of you have noticed that I've got a Print Friendly button right after each blog entry title.....if you haven't noticed.....then slip your eyes northwestward and check out that little green button up there.  Here's another view.....

I tried another (to be unnamed, because they've totally ticked me off) way of doing print friendly for my recipes, but for some gawd forsaken reason they quit making it easy on me.....and then the program had the gall to crash my computer!!!  So I drop-kicked them into the proverbial trashcan.....and began my search for another (and much simpler) program.  That program turned out to be Print Friendly.....woo hoo!!!!  Print Friendly is VERY EASY to work with.....and even though you'll be diving into HTML.....there won't be any need to change anything.....in other words, you'll just be dropping in a code.  Once this code is placed in the HTML and saved, the Print Friendly button will show up each and every time you do an entry.  So here goes nothing!

The first thing you'll need to do is pull up Print Friendly.....just click here.....and here's what will pop up on your screen.....

Where it says 'enter a url'.....type in whatever blog/website you choose.

For the purposes of this tutorial, I'll be using my photo blog, The Monochromatic Mermaid.  Then click on 'print preview'.....

The screen that pops up will show you what your blog/website will look like once someone clicks on the Print Friendly button.....but you're more concerned now with clicking on the 'Website Button' in the top right corner.....

This is where the fun begins.....you get to pick out what button you want for your blog/website.  In #1 you have 3 choices, 'Website, Wordpress, or Blogger'.....choose which site type you'll need.....since I'm on Blogger, that is what you'll see for this demonstration.....

#2 gives you 7 choices for the button that you'll want on your blog/website.  Choice the one that will be perfect for you.....

Then you will need to highlight the code, and do a Ctrl C (copy).....

Jot down or print out the following directions if it simplifies things for you (it does for me).  You'll notice that I crossed off 'Layout', because it just doesn't exist anymore on Blogger.  You will actually be clicking on the 'Design' button.....

On your Blogger dashboard, click on 'Design'.....

The next screen that pops up you will click on 'Edit HTML'.....

Last but not least, tick the 'Expand Widget Templates' box.....

Now you need to start scrolling down through the HTML, and roughly halfway down you'll come across <div class='post-footer'>.

At the end of that tag, hit your 'Enter' key, and this is where you'll drop in that Print Friendly code that you copied earlier.....

Drop in the code (Ctrl V - insert).....

Click on 'Save Template'.....

Then click on 'View Blog'.....

You'll next be taken to your blog/website page.....cursor down to where your comments are and there's your Print Friendly button.....

Okay.....I can stop right here, but I don't like my Print Friendly button at the end of my blog entries.....I like it at the top where everyone can see it right away.  That way you're not having to search high and low for it.  So here's the secret to popping in that very same code, but now it'll show up right after your blog entry title!  For the sake of trying not to confuse you too much, I've got the following instructions in a dazzling sea blue font.

After you've clicked on 'Design'.....'Enter HTML'.....and clicked on the 'Expand Widget Templates' box.....you will be looking for <div class='post-header'>.....

At the end of that tag, hit your 'Enter' key, and this is where you'll drop in that Print Friendly code that you copied earlier.....

Drop in the code (Ctrl V - insert).....

Click on 'Save Template'.....

Click on 'View Blog'.....

You'll next be taken to your blog/website page.....cursor down to your entry title and there's your Print Friendly button.....

There you go!!!  Now whenever someone absolutely has to have a copy of your daily entry.....all they've got to do is click on Print Friendly.....and away they go!!!
