Then there were more drive-bys.....at which point I motioned the Big Boober toward the Gulch. As we were coming up to the light for our turn.....I told him to hold on a sec and let's do the big loop and check out a few more garage sales. So down the road we journey.....another couple of drive-bys.....then the skies opened.....and there it was.....the SCORE of all SCORES!!! There covered with a couple of pieces of wood and being used as a table.....was my soon to be newest possession.....so I calmly asked if it was for sale.....in fact, the girl who was manning the garage sale fussed at me for wanting her table.....but I ignored her fussing and pressed on.....she said, "I guess" (did I mention that she was a teenager - such a teen answer).....then I asked how much.....she leaned back and eyeballed it and said $6.00! HOLY SH*T!!! I snatched my wallet out of my purse faster than a rabbit chasing a carrot.....shakily put the money into her hand.....gave the winky sign to the Big Boober to grab that baby and head out to the truck. In my mind, all I could think of was this poor misguided child's parents come running out of the house yelling, "stop, now put that down, and step away." YES.....the parent's did come out the front door, but they were too busy manhandling a headboard to even notice us cramming this treasure from heaven into the back of the Transformer. We jumped in.....the Big Boober threw it into drive.....and away we went with our hearts thumping a mile a minute in our chests! Wonder what we netted for $6.00? An antique "The Free Sewing Machine Company" #5 sewing machine treadle base.....which the Big Boober researched and found they go for roughly $85!!! It's definitely going to be a table.....but haven't decided if the top will be out of granite or wood. Ignore the dust, dirt, and all the other project mess.....and check out my new baby.....
Once we were clear of that neighborhood, we decided to head on home with our new find.....but, oh no.....there was one more garage sale that was doing the siren song with me.....so we pulled up.....and met the nicest people who really knew they had great stuff, but just needed to get rid of it! Then I spied spindles/spools.....LOTS of spindles.....all for me kind of spindles! Have you priced just ONE spindle lately.....pricey, indeed! Lucky lady here got ALL these spindles for just $10!!! Holy crap-a-doodle-doo!!!
So I passed on a 10-spot to the lady.....then started walking down the other side of the driveway.....when I spotted an OLD metal tool box for $2.00!!! I was envisioning potted plants set in it before the money even left my wallet.
All of that for just $21.00!!! I'm not one to part with my cash that readily.....but I kind of looked at it as an early birthday present.....felt like I deserved it.....you know what I mean.
So WOW!!! What a great way to start off the weekend!
