Floral Picture Frame

Print
I think I'm winding down on making "F's" for my "F" Wall. In fact, I've got about 4 more "F's" to put together, then I'm calling it quits, and moving on to the next NEW project. I think this particular frame is my new favorite, but then again, most every one I've done has been my favorite at one time or another.....but for today.....this is #1. If you notice that spot on the upper left hand corner that looks like it's stained.....it's not.....what it is, is my impatience! I didn't let the scrapbook paper dry completely before I sprayed it with the glaze. I know.....my bad! Regardless of my impatience.....I still love it!

Floral Picture Frame

You'll Need
  • Wooden picture frame (any big box craft store will have them)
  • Sandpaper
  • Acrylic paint
  • Laser-cut scrapbook paper
  • Wax paper -or- plastic package that the laser-cut scrapbook paper came in
  • Sponge brush (2)
  • Collage Pauge Instant Decoupage Matte Finish
  • Craft Knife (with new blade)
  • Triple Thick Clear Glaze
  • Roller (optional)
  • Cardstock (optional)
  • Rub-on letter (optional)
  • Bone folder (optional)
  • Picture hanger
  • E-6000 glue

Rub around all the edges with the sandpaper to get rid of any roughness. Dust well.

Paint a coat of your color choice over the whole frame (back too), and let dry completely. Paint a second coat, and let dry. If desired, a third coat can be applied.

Now that your paint is completely dry, apply a thin layer of the Collage Pauge over the top side of your frame using your sponge brush.

Carefully position the laser-cut paper over the Collage Pauge.

Now place the wax paper over the laser-cut paper and rub gently to help adhere the paper to the frame.

Once the paper is set, use your roller to further help adhere the paper. Remove the wax paper and throw away. This is the important part.....LEAVE IT ALONE until completely dry.....as in, no tackiness to the touch.

Once the paper has completely dried, carefully cut away the excess paper with your craft knife (this is where a good sharp blade is a necessity). If you cut away any of the paint with your blade, then go back and touch up where needed.

Now it's time to seal the whole shebang. Spray a light coat of the Triple Thick Clear Glaze, and let dry completely (making sure to spray the sides, both inside and out). Repeat, making sure to use light coats. I prefer my frame to have a nice thick coat, so I applied about 4-5 coats to get the desired affect. Let the frame dry overnight.

On the backside of your frame, find the upper center, and mark it with a pen (or pencil).....this is where the picture hanger will go. Apply a good dab of the E-6000, and set your hanger on top of the glue, making sure not to get any on the part that moves.

At this point you can put any photo or picture in your frame. Please notice in the picture above that there are 4 metal clips on the opening of the back of the frame to lock your photo in place (this particular frame came with those already installed).
Here is what I put in my frame.....

Using the paper cut-out (that was in the middle of the frame when purchased) as a template, cut out your cardstock.

Choose any letter you desire for your picture. Since my last name begins with an "F", that is what I chose (I found this rub-on at an Etsy site - gotta ♥ Etsy).

Center the rub-on on top of the cardstock. Using a bone folder, rub the letter until it's completely transferred.

And that's how you make a floral picture frame, with a rub-on letter insert!

Now go forth and craft!!!
