Coral Monogram Display

Print

I'm still on my letter F kick.....as in I've got a boatload and a half of F's on my wall.....and counting!!!  This current one is right up there with my top 3 favorites.....coral wins me over every time!  In all actuality, this one is quite simply.....simple!  Aside from the usual crafting supplies.....all I purchased for this mongram display was the letter F, and I got that on sale at Restoration Hardware for about $7 over the Christmas holidays.  Would you believe that the box was almost a throwaway.....thankfully, I came to my senses and shoved it on a shelf in my craft room for further inspiration.  The box was originally a container for tealight candles.....so I guess this project is part repurposing/part new idea!  Enough chatter.....on to the how-to's.....

Coral Monogram

You'll Need
  • Box with low-sides
  • Translucent scrapbooking paper with a coral design
  • White spray paint (matte finish)
  • Coral acrylic paint (I made my own by mixing orange and white)
  • Collage Pauge (matte finish)
  • Monogram letter
  • Hanger
  • E6000 glue
  • Foam brushes
  • Painters tape
(Please note that the photos came out with the coral looking more orangey, than the true coral color
the project is)

The first thing you'll need to do is spray paint the white on all sides of your box, top and bottom.  Once dry, give the box a second coat, and set aside to dry.

Once the box is completely dry, apply some painters tape along all the edges of the inside bottom of the box.

Once the box is taped, paint everything but the inside bottom of the box with the coral paint.  Let dry, then give it a second coat.  Set aside to dry.

The following photo shows what I mean by keeping the inside bottom white.  Leaving it white is important!

Measure your scrapbooking paper to fit the inside bottom of your box.

Apply some Collage Pauge to the inside bottom of the box, and spread evenly.

Carefully place your pre-cut piece of scrapbooking paper onto the Collage Pauge, and gently apply pressure to make sure it properly adheres (this is a one-shot deal, so take care when placing the paper in the box).  It's okay if some of the Collage Pauge splooches out, as it will dry clear.

Place a few dabs of the E6000 glue on the backside of your letter, and then center the letter on top of the scrapbooking paper.  Give it a few good presses to make sure it sets.

Once the letter is secure, turn your project over.  Center the hanger onto the back of the box, and give a good dab of the E6000 glue to hold it in place.  Let dry.

You're now ready to display your monogram!!!

  13. Love this project and so glad I found you. I am now a new follower. I have one question about the project. I'm a novice crafter, at best, and I've not heard of Collage Pauge. Can you tell me why it is your preference over other glues? Just curious b/c I haven't yet found my favorite sticky stuff and am on the look out for good advice on this. Thanks, Joy
