Guess Who's Going to be a Farmer?

Print
I keep talking about my adventures and misadventures with growing foodstuffs for the Big Boober and I.....and for some reason I keep prodding myself along determined to be a success!  This year is no different than others in the past.  Now the incentive has grown tenfold.....let me explain.  A couple of days ago I received some communication from a gal at Hometown Seeds.....who mentioned that she would like moi to try some of their survival seeds.....how's that for enticing me into being a farmer!  I was quite intrigued about these seeds.....and what makes them so special.  So I checked out their site.....Hometown Seeds.....and here's what I found out about their survival seeds.....these little guys are homegrown.....non-hybrid.....100% GMO-free (genetically modified organism)......they're great for long-term food storage.....you get 1-1/2 pounds of seeds in the package.....you heard that right - POUNDS.....which will plant about three-quarters of an acre (I don't even live on three-quarters of an acre).....but that's not a problem.....because the seeds come specially wrapped to last at least 5 years on the shelf, or 10 years if frozen.  So I can plant up a couple of different seeds this year.....then pick another couple next......and you get the big picture!  The survival pack includes.....Lincoln Peas, Detroit Dark Red Beets, Kentucky Wonder Brown Pole Bean, Yolo Wonder Pepper, Champion Radish, Lucullus Swiss Chard, Black Beauty Zucchini, Waltham Butternut Winter Squash, Bloomsdale Longstanding Spinach, Scarlet Nantes Carrots, Long Green Improved Cucumber, Rutgers Tomato, Golden Acre Cabbage, Romaine Paris Island Cos Lettuce, Golden Bantem Sweet Corn, and last but not least, Yellow Sweet Spanish Onion!  PHEW!!!  Here's a photo of what part of my future bumper crop is going to look like.....

In these lean times, it's certainly smart to grow your own food for our daily survival.....let's just hope that I can do these seeds justice!

The kind folks at Hometown Seeds will be sending me the Survival Seeds package to try out......so be expecting a review down the road!

  1. We have (3) 10' x 4' raised beds for vegetables. There is nothing like produce right off the vine. Nothing.

I too am a Texas blogger and I am so glad I found your blog this morning.
Your survival seed packet sounds fascinating.
I am currently working on my tomato bed- I'll be planting this weekend.
I haven't had much luck, but I keep trying!

  4. Lucky lady! Have fun with the garden. I am so jealous and I miss my veggie patch so much. No more home grown produce for us, just flowers and maybe 2-3 tomato plants in pots. Well I always have my pots of herbs on the deck. Good luck and remember to eat a few tomato sandwiches for me!
