I was minding my own business while doing laundry, smoking a pork roast, and piddling on the computer.....when I heard the familiar sound of a delivery truck on our street. I did a mental check and I assured myself that it wasn't going to be coming to our house.....since I've got nada on order. While I was well into that mental checklist.....lo and behold.....the doorbell rings.....then all 3 dogs start raising a ruckus that'd bring the dead back to life.....and me in my nightie peeps around the corner to see if I could catch sight of who was ringing my bell. Then I see the big brown truck pull away.....and as I tell the monster dogs to put a lid on it.....I traverse my way through the Canine Sea to reach my final destination.....the door. As I open the door a crack (don't want no boogie men to snatch me away).....I see a nice little package sitting on the stoop.....with a quick check for any neighbors (I'm still in my nightie).....I slipped out the door while holding the cujos from hell at bay.....grab the package.....and slip back into the Gulch. I check the package and see that it most certainly has my name on the envelope.....again I went over that mental checklist (nope, still nothing).....noticed the return address.....no clue.....then I gave up playing Karnack the Magnificent and finally opened it. It was this.....
I knew as soon as this book touched my hands that this was special.....very special! Special it was.....as I slowly opened the book and turned each page.....I quickly knew that this wasn't your old school paper dolls. This was art! Let me give you an example of what some of these 'paper dolls' look like (and these aren't even the best ones in the book).....
I guess the reason why I decided to write this post is to thank whomever bestowed upon me this random act of kindness. I have no clue how it all came about.....no clue why me.....no clue how this book found its way to my home (yes, it was MY name and address on the envelope). The only clue I have is a publishing company on the return address label (never ordered from them before).....there was a piece of paper on the inside (no try this for 30-days and then we'll bill your ass till your old as dirt). What did catch my attention was....."no charge samples -- no money due." I've Googled this book and the publishing company, and at $14.95, this is not an inexpensive book.....again, why me. I guess I need to accept that I was on the receiving end of a wonderful random act of kindness.....one I truly appreciate.....and to the sender.....THANK YOU!!!
