Print

I'm always on the quest for the BEST shrimp cocktail in the land.....and I can safely say that I've found it!!!  I made this recently for a little get-together with the family.....and all I can say is the nummy sounds were constant!  My only recommendation is to get the freshest shrimp you can find.....because that will make all the difference in flavor.  With all that said.....here goes.....

The BEST Shrimp Cocktail EVER

You'll Need

For the shrimp:

  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 24 extra large tail-on raw shrimp

For the cocktail sauce:
  • 1/2 cup Heinz chili sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (I prefer Hooter's)
  • 1/2 clove garlic, finely minced

Cocktail Sauce:

In a medium bowl, mix together the chili sauce, ketchup, horseradish, Worcestershire, lemon juice, hot sauce, and garlic.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Shrimp:

NOTE:  If desired, peel and devein the shrimp, making sure to leave the tail on, prior to boiling.  I found that this works easiet for me.

Set a large bowl of ice water at your sink to immerse the cooked shrimp into.

Add to a large pot of water, the Old Bay, lemon, garlic powder, garlic, chili powder, and salt, and bring to a boil.

Add the shrimp, and when the water returns to a boil the shrimp should be cooked through and a nice bright pink.

Immediately drain the shrimp, then place into the ice bath to cool for 2 minutes.  Peel the shrimp, making sure to leave the tails on.  Drain any additional liquid, then serve with the cocktail sauce.
